Co-Founder and Managing Director
Helmuth Aberer is passionate about collaborating with management teams to create innovative solutions. He is an entrepreneur and advisor with a strong finance and coaching background and serves as a trusted non-executive board-member. He has experience in both large international corporations as well as in innovative start-ups.
From 2016 to 2020, he co-founded Cognito Hub Limited, a consulting company, as well as Cayan Educational Design Limited, an educational company in Hong Kong.
Before that, Helmuth Aberer worked at UBS in different capacities from 1987 to 2015, including as managing director and global head of real estate products, in Asia, Europe, and the USA. He has led several multi-cultural teams in the areas of asset management, investment banking, wealth management, and commercial banking.
He holds three Master’s degrees, separately, in finance, political economy, and politics from New York University, Science Po in Paris, and University of St.Gallen, Switzerland, respectively. He was also a project leader for a Red Cross project in Kenya during the Young Europe Africa (YEA) expedition from 1985 to 1986. As a certified RYA yachtmaster, he likes to sail in Hong Kong waters.

Catherine McBride PHD
Professor Catherine McBride is an expert on literacy development and impairment around the world. She is the current and founding President of the Association for Reading and Writing in Asia (ARWA), past President of the Society for the Scientific Study of Reading (SSSR) and past Associate Dean for Research at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK).
She is the author of five books on different aspects of literacy development and impairment: Coping with Dyslexia, Dysgraphia and ADHD, A Global Perspective (2019); The Routledge International Handbook of Early Literacy Education (2017); Children’s Literacy Development: A Cross-Cultural Perspective on Learning to Read and Write (2016); Children’s Literacy Development (2004); Reading Development in Chinese Children (2003).
Together with World Learning and CUHK, she has created a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) “Teaching Struggling Readers Around the World” with approximately 10,000 students in over 100 countries having participated. Furthermore, the innovative card game, BumperCardsTM, Creativity through Language, is based on her long time research (www.cayanedu.com).
